Virginia and her husband, Kevin, met when they both lived in Arizona and worked together at a small media company. They moved from Phoenix to San Francisco in 1997 because Virginia received a job promotion and was transferred. Fun Fact, the apartment she and Kevin shared while in San Francisco was on the corner of 11th Ave and Geary Blvd above a bar called “Would you Believe? Cocktails”. Their son, Gavin, was born in San Francisco on New Year’s Eve 12/31/2000. It was about 18 months later when they bought their first house and moved to San Leandro. They thought it would be their “starter” house – but they’re still in their 1926 bungalow and they love it.

Up until 2019 Virginia always worked in San Francisco so she used to ride BART frequently. But now she works locally and really likes that. Her strongest connections to San Leandro were forged while Gavin was attending the local public schools and he was on the San Leandro Drowning Darryl’s swim team. Through the school and the swim team there were many parent-volunteer activities and that’s how she met many of the people who are her closest friends today.

Virginia loves SL because of the people and the community. Many people here care about the environment and social issues, they want to make the world better for all, and she relates to that. Virginia joined Rotary Club to meet people who have a shared interest in supporting the community and to find opportunities to contribute.
